Pick & choose a field most appropriate for you!

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) conducted a survey in which they interviewed employers about the career fields that according to them were the most attractive ones. Most of them declared education, business, computer science, engineering and finance as the most lucrative career options of the present century.

Check out which fields are employers’ most favorites in 2012 and see where you fit in.


Education

According to a New York Times’ blog, 71 percent of those who have pursued their degree or diploma programs in education got a job before the age of 25. Education is one of the most popular majors and there are so many career options apart from teaching that you can seek, once you have a degree in Education. These include career options like becoming a teaching assistant, coordinator, curriculum planner, administrator, assessment evaluator etc.

Engineering

Engineers are always compensated well for their abilities. There are a variety of engineering fields to choose from, e.g. biomedical engineering, civil engineering, computer engineering, electrical engineering etc. According to NACE survey, 53.5 percent of organizations would like to hire graduates who have majored in electrical engineering and 53 percent of them would like to hire graduates with majors in mechanical engineering.

Computer Science

 If Bill Gates is one of your favorite personalities, why not give ‘Computer Science’ a try. If you aspire to be a computer science expert, start your studies in this vast and evolving field. The computer science degree recently received the fourth position on CNBC’s Highest Paid Bachelor’s Degrees, with a starting salary of about $60,000. According to the survey by NACE, 53 percent of organizations would like to hire graduates who major in computer science.

Accounting & Finance

Finance is an industry that is broad and the career options in this field are endless. Almost every company needs a finance team and they pay them well too. You can make a career as an accountant, an auditor, a finance manager, financial analyst or even a financial controller with proper credentials and experience. According to the survey by NACE, 62 percent of the organizations prefer graduates who major in accounting and 57 percent of them would like to hire graduates who major in finance.

Business Administration

Business administration is one of the most popular fields of the present times. With a degree in business administration, you can work at a bank or in communications, marketing, e-commerce, media etc. Whether you want to work for an organization or start up your own venture, studying business administration is a good way to prepare yourself to succeed in the business world. According to the survey by NACE, 52 percent of the organizations prefer graduates who have majored in business administration/management.
